Groups

Being part of a group is one of the most powerful experiences for each person touched by adoption.

Groups are available for:

Adolescents

Adult Adoptees

Parents

Birth Parents

All programs are facilitated by Susan W. Baron, LCSW and Risa J. Werner, LCSW, co-founders of Touched By Adoption and are held at our offices at 2 Lincoln Street in Westport.

Adolescents

The primary task of adolescence is identity formation and separation from their parents.  This enables teens to move out into the world.  This process is more challenging for teen-agers who have been adopted as they have to separate from their birth parents as well as their adoptive parents.

TAG: Teen Adoption Group for adoptees in High School

The group provides a time for teens to develop mutual support around the unique issues adolescent adoptees face.  It offers an opportunity to meet other adoptees from Fairfield County and to learn about their journeys.  Members will be able to use their creativity to educate people about adoption.  The group provides a safe space to ask questions and share thoughts in a judgement-free place and for adoptees to feel less alone.

Logistics: The group will meet one Saturday a month for 4 sessions from 10:30am to 12pm.  Dates will be determined based on school schedules.

Location: 2 Lincoln St. Westport, CT

Fee: $200 for 4 sessions. (Documentation can be provided for insurance.)

Email us if you wish to enroll in the next session.

“There is a magical, visceral connection which our current group has formed which has enabled them to do significant work on processing their adoption.”

Adult Adoptees

Adoption is a life-long journey.  Each stage in an adoptee’s life offers specific challenges.  Groups offer the opportunity to share your thoughts with other adoptees who understand your experiences and feelings.
