Staff Training & Consultation Services

Adoptees face unique challenges as they navigate through school and interact with mental health professionals.  Extensive research has been conducted over the past 20 years, resulting in the development of protocols which enable professionals to become adoption competent.  TBA is available to speak with educators and mental health professionals to enhance their skills and effectiveness.

Pre-schools

Adopted children in pre-school are comfortable with the fact that they’ve been adopted and are happy talking about their adoption.  Schools should include books about adoption in their libraries and children should be supported as they share their adoption story.


Training for pre-school staff includes raising awareness about the child’s understanding of adoption, suggestions for supporting the child and ideas for projects.  A comprehensive bibliography and suggestions for classroom resources are included in this training.

Public & Private Schools

Adoptees' face unique challenges as they navigate their school experiences.  Current research has identified specific assignments which may be difficult because they activate core emotions adoptees' experience.  Staff training will heighten awareness of the specific challenges and increase educators’ effectiveness with this population.

  • The adoptee’s developmental understanding of adoption
  • Positive adoption language
  • Adoption-sensitive assignments

Mental Health Professionals

During the past 20 years, extensive research has been conducted into the life-long challenges that adoptees face.  It is crucial for the clinicians who work with them to develop an awareness of the challenges and techniques which are most effective throughout each developmental stage.  Our goal for mental health professionals is to increase their knowledge about adoption.

TBA is available to consult with mental health professionals about the specific challenges their clients are facing.  TBA also provides staff supervision and training.
